Girls on the Run will host its spring Girls on the Run 5K on Saturday, April 29 at Center Parc Stadium (formerly Georgia State Stadium) in downtown Atlanta. Participation in the non-competitive 5K event is open to all members of the community, and proceeds from the event benefit Girls on the Run Georgia. Participants who register by 11:59 pm on Wednesday, March 22 can take advantage of the discounted early-bird online registration fee before the March 23 price increase. Along with the 5K, the event also features the Girls on the Run 5K Festival which includes fun, family-friendly activities such as the Happy Hair station, music, giveaways and more.

Girls on the Run is much more than running. The afterschool program combines physical activity with critical social-emotional learning centered around lessons focusing on topics like positive self-talk, standing up for yourself and others and learning to identify and express emotions. For the more than 1,300 participants and 417 volunteer coaches taking part in the Girls on the Run (3rd to 5th grade) and Heart & Sole (6th to 8th grade) programs this spring, the 5K celebration serves as the culmination of the 12-week season.

“It’s always so meaningful to see members of our community come out to support and celebrate our program participants as they work their way toward the finish line at the Girls on the Run 5K,” said Lea Rolfes, Executive Director, Girls on the Run Georgia. “Our participants work so hard throughout the season as they engage in lessons that help them build critical life skills like connecting with others, understanding and managing their emotions, and of course, setting and achieving goals. Having members from our community encouraging them every step of the way through participating, volunteering or spectating at the 5K makes the morning even more special for our program participants.”

Early-bird online registration is $30 through 11:59 pm on Wednesday, March 22. Regular online registration is $35 Thursday, March 23 through Tuesday, April 25, and in-person registration is $40 and will be available at 5K number pickup on Thursday, April 27 and Friday, April 28 as well as at Center Parc Stadium on 5K morning starting at 7:30 am.
