The end-of-season 5K event, which will take place at Center Parc Stadium (formerly Georgia State Stadium), is a time for us to come together as a community and applaud our participants on the lessons they have learned, obstacles they have overcome and the confidence they have built. Most importantly, your participation supports the Girls on the Run Georgia Scholarship Fund, which helps keep the Girls on the Run spark in the lives of girls throughout the metro Atlanta, North Georgia and Athens areas.

5K Shoe Recycling

On 5K morning, drop off your old sneakers and athletic shoes at the Girls on the Run Young Professionals Board table in the 5K Festival area. We will donate them through GotSneakers where shoes in good condition will be donated for reuse, and shoes that are too worn out will be recycled and turned into tracks, playground surfaces, etc. Plus, for every pair of shoes donated, GotSneakers will make a donation to Girls on the Run, which will help fund program scholarships for girls in your community this fall!

Our end-of-the-season 5K celebration would not be possible without the help of our incredible volunteers! 5K volunteer registration will open Wednesday, March 15 and remain open through Tuesday, April 18 or until all the volunteer spots are filled – whichever comes first.

As a reminder, this is a fun, celebratory event for our participants and not a competitive race. While our fastest 5K participants will complete the course in 25 minutes, most cross the finish line in 30-50 minutes. Everyone who participates is encouraged to walk, roll, push, run or skip at their happy pace!

First, we understand that life happens, and circumstance might make it not possible to attend the 5K celeberation.

We do encourage that all participants attend and complete the 5K, as it is the goal that teams are preparing for all season long. It’s the ultimate opportunity to build confidence through accomplishment. Remember, this is the first 5K event for many – including coaches, participants, friends and family members. We are in it together!

No. All currently enrolled girls, as well as coaches, are already registered for the 5K as part of their program registration. There is no need to register them again.

Yes! Family, friends and community members outside of our program can participate in the event, but must register.

For the safety of all our participants, spectators and volunteers, furry friends are not allowed on the course or at the event. Please leave all pets at home on 5K day! Owners will be asked to return their pet to their vehicle if pets are spotted at the event.

A Running Buddy is an individual designated by the council or by the parent/guardian to complete the 5K alongside a program participant during the 5K event, for the entire duration of the course.

Yes, every girl will need a Running Buddy for the 5K. Running Buddies must be 16 or older and may be family members, caregivers, teachers or anyone else who will help ensure the girl’s safety and provide her with support throughout the 5K. Coaches may also be Running Buddies for up to three girls of similar pace. All Running Buddies must register for the event. Families that qualify for reduced lunch receive one discounted or free entry for their Running Buddy.

For safety reasons, every participant must register for the 5K and wear a race bib (provided by the council). Our council ensures every participant has a Running Buddy, and only critical 5K volunteers have access to confidential information.

To ensure every participant crosses the finish line, we have safety monitors and police officers throughout the course. Working with the venue and local police and on-site security, our council has a safety plan, which trains staff and volunteers on how to respond during an emergency or incident.

Rain won’t keep our Star Power from shining bright at our 5K celebration! The Girls on the Run 5K is a rain or shine event, and all 5K registrations are non-refundable.

In cases of inclement weather, changes to the event schedule may occur. If you opted into the Emergency Alert System during online registration, you will receive text message alerts if the event schedule changes.

To help spread participants out before and during the 5K, the event has seven start waves. Each participating team and community participant has been assigned a Zone which is designated on your 5K number, and each Zone has a designated start wave time assigned to it.

More details on specific start wave times will be available closer to the event.
